Sick Little Boy . . .

Matthew came down with a cold last week and decided to stop eating last Thursday. I took him to his pediatrician (whom was too busy to see us so we had to see her Nurse Practitioner - a frustrating situation). He ended up with an ear infection and head cold. His oxygen saturation's dropped a little but his blood pressure was 128/100. Not good. They took it 6 times by 3 different people. They tried to contact his cardiologist but he was out so they contacted who was on call. They decided to send us home by assuming it wasn't correct. Let's just say I was not happy with that decision. After everything we have been through don't tell me that his blood pressure being that high is just an inaccurate reading. Way to many emotions came flooding back. I sat in the parking lot at the pediatrician's office and had to have a moment to cry. I ended up calling the PICU and then called Kelly (from the PICU) on her cell phone. She called Dr. Fortuna (Matthew's surgeon) and they said it was most likely an accurate reading. If he was dehydrated at all this will cause stress on the heart and high blood pressure is a normal reaction. They told me to take him home and push the fluids. If he wasn't doing better than they would admit him for some IV fluids.

He did better through the day on Saturday and Saturday night he woke up throwing up. We pushed fluids all day yesterday and he was looking pretty yucky but finally kept some fluids down last night and he is a different boy today. We are going back to the doctor this afternoon so we will see what she thinks. Hopefully, his blood pressure is a lot better. We would prefer to spend this Christmas at home not the hospital (we love all of you nurses but would rather just stop in for a visit).

Keep Matthew in your prayers and the rest of our family (we don't want the flu). We try not to worry too much but it's hard not too when it comes to Matthew. I think it's a requirement of being a Mom.

Have a great week and we wish all of you a Happy Holiday Season. I will post again if we find out anything different from the doctor today.

You better keep that little boy of yours at home:). We only like personal visits, not health related visits. Hang in there. I hope it's a short lived bug, and I hope taylor doesn't get it during Christmas. I'll be keeping you in my prayers.
