Good Day...

Matthew had a pretty good day today. His blood pressure started to come down and as I mentioned earlier, the ultrasound on his brain came back ok. He had an ultrasound on his kidneys this afternoon but results won't be available until tomorrow.

There is now talk of a Lower GI test to rule out any problems in his colon and maybe a heart catheterization to rule out problems with his coronary arteries which may be the reason for his high blood pressure. We've been happy with most of the tests they've run so far because they've all been relatively low risk and have given us confirmation that things are ok. The heart catheterization carries a little more risk so the thought makes us nervous, but we know something has to be causing Matthew to have blood pressure similar to an adult male and if the heart cath will help us diagnose and treat the problem then that's what we'll do.

Matthew hasn't eaten since Friday morning so his stomach and intestines are now barely functioning (this is normal). The 10 ML of Barium he was given for the Upper GI test he had on Monday was not enough to "wake up" his stomach so a portion of it is still sitting in his stomach. He was given a medicine called Reglan today that should increase the contractions in his stomach and small intestine to get the Barium moving. Apparently if it sits in there long it will get hard and make it difficult and painful for Matthew to pass.

Overall, Matthew had a pretty good day and was considerably less fussy than he's been in a while. He had several moments today where he was awake and not crying. I was able to capture one of those moments in the picture above. Taylor is staying at grandma's for a few days so Amy and I were able to go out to dinner tonight and take a breath. It was worth it.

Hang in there parents. My thoughts and prayers go out to you. We were in the NICU for 4weeks and DRAINED. Can't imagine going home and having to return soo soon. Try to enjoy the Holidays as much as possible. Wishing you a less stressful 2008.
