Little Alyssa (Amy's sister's daughter) has been having a pretty rough week. She was diagnosed was a respiratory condition called Stridor a few weeks ago and they had a follow up appointment scheduled for this week to determine the cause. Her conditioned worsened last week and they had to take her to the emergency room in Fort Wayne last Friday. After a pretty miserable experience they were basically blown off by the ER doctor and were told to just keep her scheduled appointment with the ear, nose and throat doctor this week. They took her home Friday evening, but her breathing only got worse so they took her back into the emergency room on Saturday.
Thankfully they had better care this time and it was determined that she had RSV and Pneumnia. On Tuesday they did a chest x-ray and dicovered she had a collapsed lung caused by an air and fluid pocket inside of her chest. She had a chest tube placed to empty out the pocket which allowed her lung to reinflate. They took the chest tube out on Wednesday. After further testing they have determined that the collapsed lung was probably caused by a combination of RSV, Pneumonia, Severe Acid Reflux and the Stridor. Alyssa is still on oxygen at this point but they are hoping to bring her home this Saturday.
Please keep Kim and her whole family in your prayers. While going through this with her daughter, Kim and her two sons have been diagnosed with Strep Throat.
