Again it's amazing how conflicting some of the information is that we get from the hospital. I am updating the previous post since some of the information was inaccurate. We were finally able to talk to the surgeon tonight who cleared up a lot of these things for us.
Everything I wrote about the Clonidine overdose was accurate and the Upper GI test did come back normal today.
The Staph infection is a little more concerning that when thought. They're running more tests on the oozing from the incision today. They know that it's a Staph infection but other bacteria may also be present. Matthew will continue antibiotic treatment for the infection for a few more weeks. They haven't decided if this will need to be administered through his IV or if we'll be able to give it to him orally.
Although I wrote earlier that the ultrasound performed on his brain showed everything is fine, they don't actually have the results for this test yet. The results will not be available until tomorrow. Please pray that there is no bleeding on his brain.
They also performed an ultrasound on his right leg today looking for blood clots. The Central Line placed in his right leg on Friday was too large and caused venous congestion in the leg resulting in swelling and poor blood flow. They switched out the Central Line for a smaller one last night and it appears that the congestion has started clearing up. The ultrasound showed no blood clots in the leg. Unfortunately the new Central Line is much smaller so they had to put an IV into the top of his head to give him all of his medication.
There is still a lot of concern about Matthew's high blood pressure. It is consistently too high despite 3 different blood pressure medications. One reason could be partial blockage of the arteries providing blood flow to his kidneys. They will perform an ultrasound on his kidneys tomorrow to rule this out.
We are still breathing a huge sigh of relief for having Matthew overcome the overdose so well.
