More Concern...

We had another rough day today. Matthew cried for 5 hours straight. After several calls to the surgeon and nurse practitioner, we gave him an extra dose of the new medication. It worked like a charm and he fell asleep for several hours.

Later in the evening, Matthew had a bowel movement that was mixed with blood. I called the Nurse Practitioner, who took care of him in the hospital, and she came over to our home to see him. (She lives down the road from us.) She checked him over and confirmed that it is blood in his stools. According to her, when he cries for hours the oxygen is not reaching his stomach and is therefore causing his intestines to be upset. If the blood continues they will need to run some tests.

We also asked her to look at his incision because it looked pink to us. She called the surgeon and she decided that it is infected. She said that this usually happens 3 weeks after surgery and is common when the chest is left open like his was. We are going back to the hospital tomorrow to meet with the surgeon and determine what is going on.

Craig and I are totally exhausted and we don't know what to do to help our little boy. It breaks our hearts to see him in pain and we can't fix it. Pray that the Lord gives the doctors the knowledge to figure out his crying and the infection. Also, pray for extra strength and peace for Craig and I as we are wearing down.

We will update tomorrow as soon as we have some answers.
