Matthew had another good night and his swelling is completely down. They backed his ventilator down to 21% oxygen (room air equivalent) and his oxygen saturation is still in the mid 80's. Yes! The blueish tint to his fingers and feet has lessened and they now look more pink.
He's doing so well at this point that his surgeon is going to try to close his chest this afternoon around 2 pm. The procedure will take about 3 hours. This is very good news and a big step but can often lead set backs in terms of swelling, kidney function and oxygen saturation.
